Local Salem Ratepayers Meet to Discuss Electricity Bill Fears and Solutions

SALEM, NH - On Thursday, October 30 at 6pm, ratepayers and 350NH volunteers in Salem will host a community event to discuss the impacts of high electricity bills, and what residents can do about it. After more rate hike approvals from the Public Utilities Commission and a legislative session that slashed funding for cheap, clean energy and efficiency projects, community members are worried that this uphill price trend will only get worse.

During the event, NH Consumer Advocate Don Kreis will walk through the process of rate decisions and answer questions about utility bills. Residents will also share stories that show how rising rates have directly affected their lives and family budgets, and discuss ways to alleviate the burden on ratepayers.

WHERE: Kelley Library, 234 Main Street in Salem

WHEN: Thursday October 30 at 6pm

The 350NH Salem Chapter includes members who helped Salem approve the community power program to reduce rates for their residents. The volunteers are now looking at other ways to address the high price of electricity; from supporting legislation to make electricity more affordable and pressuring companies like Eversource and Liberty Utilities to change the way they unfairly treat customers. Clean energy is more affordable than fossil fuels, yet lawmakers in New Hampshire favor fossil fuel’s political agenda instead of investing the state in an affordable energy grid.

The press are welcome to come listen to the conversation and talk to ratepayers about their hopes in resolving this issue.
